    Default Cam Swap Info Help/Request

Doing the cam this winter and stockpiling parts and needed a few clarifications if anyone has the time/info to look over my parts list:

    I have a re-grind to cc503 specs Dur. 276/281, @.050 224/230, 112* LSA and 108* centerline

    Scorpion SCP1003 1.6 RR:
https://www.amazon.com/Scorpion-Perf...on+Performance (Wife has a mess of Amazon gift cards and is going to hook me up for xmas with these)

    Comp Cams Guide Plates: 4808-8

Howard's Springs 98213 or 98215, still haven't bought at this point. Considered using the Alex's springs kit but haven't heard enough feedback on them to make an informed decision.

Gasket set- I'm just gonna get the FelPro Head gasket and front cover set FP9966 and 45956 and 34500.

Lifters and push rods: I'll take a look and see while I'm in there.

Am I going to need a new timing set? If so, stock-ish or go all out?

    Any input is welcome.

    Thanks.

Forgot to add- CFM Performance here in Indy is going to do a stage 2 (port match, bowls, valve job and assembly) on the heads so I'll be getting ARP head bolts.

mileage of engine and how much slack is in chain will decide if u need a new timing set. i like the cloyes single full roller chains, the hd, then u have to use electric water pump.

lifters i like drop in crowers, pushrods trickflow 1 piece 5/16 or 3/8, just make sure u verify those guideplates will work. on certain head castings the guideplates dont line up and you need full isky adjustables. i ran into this once. valve springs id use the lunati spring kit

    agree with Tubby...

stock replacement timing set if needed

on the RR I would go with 7/16" vs the 3/8" size and get ARP 7/16" studs for guide plates.

Also on the guide plates...I use the ISKY adjustable's as I found the one piece SBC ones just don't allow "dead nuts" centering of the RR on valve tip

Trick flo 5/16" chromoly PR. You need to measure to confirm if the stock 7.200" are good. Having the heads decked, running a thiner head gasket and cam lobes affect PR length

I prefer the Comp Pro Mags, now Ultra Pro Mag, RR over the Scorpion but if $ is on a budget the Scorpions will work. If going NSA RR you will need to do some minimal trimming of the valve cover baffles. Simple mod.

The FelPro head gasket is .039 thick. You will get a slight compression boost by going with the Victor Reinz (aka Mr Gasket).026 head gasket

if your lifters are still good, just re-use them

I have heard good things about both Alex and Howards springs. You need to confirm your spring selection allows enough lift for your cam WITH 1:6 RR

    I like/use the Lunati spring kit 73925K5

Alex's springs are gtg up to .570 and Howard's were what Lloyd recommended.

You don't have to use an EWP unless you want to. The Cloyes (Tru Roller) accomodates the OEM pump.
