The ECM on a Spyder stores info such as rpm, gear position, engine temp, battery volts, a few other things. It is used for warranty purposes. Say you burn the clutch up on your electronic shift / centrifugal clutch model. Full clutch lock up doesn't occur until about 2500 rpm. If I see that you are in top gear doing 1500 rpm for a long time. The warranty can be denied. I have heard that the nissan gtr can tell you alot more than that.

And for everyone that is upset about "big brother".. well do you own and use a smart phone? Being tracked and watched by whatever carrier you have. Use internet? Yea, that service provider stores your nuances.

There was something on the news here the other day about text msgs. They are trying to pass a law that makes cell companies store text msgs for up to 6 months for investigative purposes. They are only stored for 5 days now, or so they say.

I didnt even know they hold them for 5 days.... Ive filed warants to get old text records...i could pull contact....but not context.

Normally when it comes to privacy concerns, I always think "I have nothing to hide, so no big deal" but Sean's point below is an excellent point of why I wouldn't want it in my car.

Time stamps on toll road tickets. When you arrive at whatever exit your ticket gets processed at, if it's under x amount of time indicating you were going above the speed limit, you get a citation in the mail for what your "average" speed across the duration was.

Anytime one gives up liberty for the "sake" of safety or whatever, you're fucked. Can't stand when some try and rationalize their argument. Lets just be real and get it out in the open. WE ARE NOT FREE NOR HAVE WE EVER BEEN FREE. People in general don't want what's involved in truly exercising that right. Rather they stay in the confines or their little world and live what lives they think they have.
