Agreed... and although I have not seen it being used for said misuse.... its only a matter of time. And Im sure tampering will also be a violation.....

I like pre 2002 cars anyways, which doesnt seem very old.... But hey, its 10 years.

But either way, Im sure most pre 2002 cars have em too. Its not to say they are abusing the information NOW, but like you said... Its not a question of if, its when.

Im not some big "government hater" either, like some people. They certinly do alot of good, but I personally dont like being watched every second of every day. Although I do realize, that some people certinly need to be watched every second of everyday.

And its a shame...because I know that the misuse will add to more legislation against them... and I dont know if I will still be a cop then or not.... but it will be a big negative hit to what I do in accident investigation if I lose the ability to easily get these... Again.. Im not about hanging people , unless they deserve it...

Example... when I get the report back from the forensic analysis, and it tells me the vehicle was traveling 20 mph over and lost control...and crashed injuring no one, or SELF only... I dont care, Im about the full story of what happend.

BUT, when people get hurt, and the report shows me that abrupt acceleration and braking and steering (represting aggressive driving) and speeds that are borderline RECKLESS ... I do use that to press charges.....but I used it in conjunction with witness statements, etc...... not just soley to screw someone... but to bring justice to those who suffer... or at least I try (cause our system sucks.)

The ECM on a Spyder stores info such as rpm, gear position, engine temp, battery volts, a few other things. It is used for warranty purposes. Say you burn the clutch up on your electronic shift / centrifugal clutch model. Full clutch lock up doesn't occur until about 2500 rpm. If I see that you are in top gear doing 1500 rpm for a long time. The warranty can be denied. I have heard that the nissan gtr can tell you alot more than that.

And for everyone that is upset about "big brother".. well do you own and use a smart phone? Being tracked and watched by whatever carrier you have. Use internet? Yea, that service provider stores your nuances.

There was something on the news here the other day about text msgs. They are trying to pass a law that makes cell companies store text msgs for up to 6 months for investigative purposes. They are only stored for 5 days now, or so they say.
