Thread: GoPro Camera

I hate my GoPro. Trying to do EVERYTHING with 2 little dials gets quite frustrating. I've recorded about 4 or 5 epic 40 minute long 1/4 mile passes, complete with me returning to the pits and then popping the hood, because I thought I had it turned off and it was still recording. It uses up the entire card every time you forget that it is on. It used to flash a red light while it was recording, but now it doesn't do anything. I must have accidentally turned off the flashing display somehow, trying to navigate through the frivolous menu system. If you turn it off, it defaults back to "still frame" mode, not video mode. At the shootout I have about 16 nice action shots of me leaning back and turning it on/off thinking that I am shooting a video but in reality i'm just taking a picture. The remote one would be pretty cool I guess.

I am not impressed with it for the cost vs the technology that is out there. I feel it can be made much better. The sound and video quality sucks IMHO. If it fun and just stick it on and go yes. But after a total of 400 bucks into it at best buy, I would have been better off with video if I bought a 100 dollar point and shoot and got some sticky mounts off line. They have found a niche market and the advertising in all sports markets they wont go away. But they do have competitors that do offer similar video at cheaper prices

Chris is right. For the money we can do much better having them for our cars. I have a small jvc video camera that has sound 100x better than my GoPro. It is small enough that I could rig a mount to my rollcage. For skydiving or a helmet-type cam, the GoPro has its niche.

I completely understand what you are saying about the audio, Chris. It sucks. It is not in stereo and is not really good. I couldn't disagree more with you on the video portion. I know you are a "picture" guy, but for what it is supposed to do, it does it great. The BIGGEST plus to the Hero series is the versatility and the ruggedness of the thing. You can mount it ANYWHERE (yes, anywhere ... literally). You can also use it underwater. It's an amazing camera for what it was designed to do. I don't think you can find another camera out there which will allow you to do what the Hero can do for you, especially at it's size.

I agree with you Paul they found the niche market and they made a good product to just stick on and go. But I feel they could have done alot better, was I going to return mine and go to a competitor, no. Am I happy I have it, yes and its held up good for falling off the car at 60mph. But Im very disappointed in the audio and the video quality. I guess I am a bit of a hypocrite
