GoPro Camera
I was thinking about picking one of these up on "cyber monday". I think it'd be handy for recording stuff that my phone or typical digital camera can't. I know nothing about them so I'm just trying to get some quick responses from anyone who owns or has used one.
I plan on using it for motorsports. Recording in cabin during races, outside cabin, and also for diagnosing weird things I can't find without seeing. An example would be driveline vibrations or anything going on in the engine bay.
I'd also like to use it for paintball and other sport applications. Riding ATV's, dirtbikes, strap it to my dog when he hunts, etc.
We currently have a Canon PowerShot A2200 HD [14.1 megapixels]. I thought about getting mounts for it, but I'm not sure how the durability would be using it for those tasks.

Ask Chris. He has one that he bought recently. My understanding is he is not terribly impressed with it. I understood it as a price vs capability issue. How much are they going for on sale?
They are crazy-neat, but I don't have one. I have been kicking around the idea, but I'm kinda after a nice video camera at the moment. A friend has on that his sticks up to the targa top on his Vette and he has some pretty cool footage from that. I would imagine if you have multiple uses for one that you would not be disappointed.

Prices, I have no idea, I've been cruising around for the last few minutes and they seem pricey. Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place.
I'm starting to think I'll just take my 7.1 megapixel garage camera, make a mount for it and start experimenting. That way I'm not destroying something nice. I just don't know anything about frames per second or anything like that. $200-$400 for a GoPro... I can use that in alot of other areas.1994 Z28 383ci - Jake's 4L80 - Moser 9" [LE2 heads and LE cam - 121mph @5500DA]

it is pricey and such but it is alot safer for speedo shots and such... i am just waiting to get really good videos till "christmas" the gf is getting me the suction cup mount for christmas. it is handy esp considering the size. I got the skater setup for my Bday but it is cool and can take a heck of a hit with the case that is included... I would post video but the ones that were taken wouldnt want to be seen.

I have a GoPro 1 HD and just purchased the GoPro 3 Black Edition. The black edition includes a wifi remote and is a huge step beyond my old unit. The versatility is great and the picture quality is very good on the newest version. I'm still tinkering with it but so far I'm pretty impressed. The GoPro cameras have a wide angle lens whereas your standard point and shoot will not. You will be fighting vibration and mount stability with a reg camera as well. They are not cheap but for overall versatility, they are tough to beat.

The new GoPro HERO3 has a remote and built in WiFi.

I have the old GoPro 960p camera, which isn't even fully HD, but it's shoots some good video. I really wanna sell it and upgrade to the HD HERO3, but I can't see my self spending $400 bucks on a camera that I'm just gonna mount on my dirt bike helmet. It is pretty impressive through, it has 1080p with 60 frames per second, it's really good for slow motion.
Here's what the 960p looks like if you wanna go the "cheaper" route. Make sure to watch it in HD on YouTube...

I have an Hero2 I'd actually be willing to sell you. Wife says we need to get rid of some toys. I can sell it to you cheaper than you'd buy a new one. Please email me if interested. It is the MotorSports edition. I have also purchased the LCD Backpack (with coorisponding covers), extra mounting hardware, tripod mount, and 32GB class 10 SD card. All would be included including the instruction manuals. If you are wondering why I would sell it, it's because I purchased it for use with a new online venture I was going to pursue, which fell through. I recently had it attached with the suction cup to the side of a helmet and I'll say you'd be hard pressed to get it to disconnect from a flat surface. I think the hardware would break before the suction cup would let go, lol. All of the adhesive strip connection pieces are unused as well. I'm thinking I'd sell the whole package shipped (in the US) for around $250 (which is the price of the camera alone), but would need to check what I have in it just to make sure. I know the LCD backpack is around another bill, then the SD card and extra mounting hardware is probably another $40+. I have only used it a couple of times, so it's basically brand new. All seals are in perfect condition. Let me know if you (or anyone on here) is/are interested. I can send pics of everything as well, just let me know.

That's a good deal.
My buddy has the LCD screen and it's like nite and day difference. The interface on the GoPro is super hard to use, the LCD just makes it so much easier. Without the LCD you pretty much have to play guessing games on where the camera is pointing. The LCD alone goes for about $80 bucks.
