Need suggestions....
Ok, so, Im thinking about our next vacation (as I sit up, cause I cant sleep cause we head out on our cruise 2moro), but I wanna do something different, maybe even a little stupid.
I want to fly Ang and I to somewhere in the US, buy a car (Id pre arrange the purchase) then drive home across country. I dont care how far, I just want a fun drive in a cheap, fun car.
So Im thinking, between 0-$4k..... for the car.... Now, what kinda car?
C4s, Porsches, TT 300ZXs...etc, IDK..... just figured maybe you guys could throw some ideas at me. And if you think its a stupid Idea, let me know....
I just want to have a good time......for both of us.....

Sounds like that would be fun. You just better be sure the car you buy is dependable and up to the task. It would suck to get stranded on the other side of the country and have to pay someone to haul the car and to find a way home. I guess that would be part of the fun though, just the risk you are taking.

I'm siding with the rest on this one Larry. If your planning on a fun vacation, you better make it something reliable. Otherwise, that fun vacation may turn not so fun being stranded out in the middle of no-where.
I vote a Honda or a Toyota (but niether of them are "fun" to me, even though I own a Honda, and plan on getting a Toyota someday).
If you don't care about maybe breaking down, I say find that "A" Team van you've always wanted!1995 Z28 - disfunctional now, perhaps insane after its "treatment"

I guess it would all depend on if they can fix my back, or if any more light duty work would come up. If not, I just sit around at home.... That would be a cool ride.....
Exactly, I dont want a POS thats guaranteed to fail, however that is part of the fun... Id cross my fingers and make the best long distance decision I could....
I would be down to consider it if it was running....
6'4" tall..... 265 lbs... Im not sure a Yugo would be a good idea for Me, much less Ang and I....
^^^
A-team Van.... NICE!!! Unfortunatley, if it is already finished, people are asking 20K+ on them. But I love the idea.... LOVE iT!!! And your right, the honda, toyota idea is NO FUN... and anything can break down, its part of the fun... no time constraints... no where to be, just a chill sight seeing cross country ride..... I just thought as a car guy... it would be FUN!

Sounds like something that TV show Top Gear would do. I can see where popo is coming from; I have thought about doing something like that too...something about the thrill of the unknown. I think the best thrill would be to make the trip in some classic American iron. Why make the trip only to suffer on the drive home in a Toyota camery or Honda civic beater?

Funny you say that.... TOP GEAR BBC, bought 1k cars in Florida, and drove them to somewhere, then sold them for 1k... (actually they donated them) but that is where I got the idea... i just upped the value by 3-4x's because the trip will be 3-4 x's longer.....
I want to hear exhaust, or boost, or something... I wanna hit the throttle and feel the back of the seat.... Im not expecting the world, but I do want more WOW factor than a prius....
