    Default 6 speed automatic???

ok so i have been talking with my dad and i want to put a six speed in my car but still keep the advantages of the auto with some of the advantages of the six speed. So my question is, has anyone seen a six speed put into an f-body. more specifically an LT1 car? I have been looking into the cost of one and they are crazy high! but any opinions hopefully positive are welcome, and if negative please exlpain why you think its not a good idea. thanks!

I'm hoping they become more mainstream with the new Camaro and newer trucks having them. Potential probems or expenses I see:

1.You would have to get an aftermarket controller for it to work with the LTX, if one exists
    2. Custom driveshaft possibly. You would want an upgraded driveshaft anyways if you were making some serious horsepower.
    3. Shifter
    4. Wiring for the aftermarket controller
    5. Possible modifying/enlarging the transmission tunnel to get it to fit

Looks like it will bolt inplace cause its a 4l80e housing. You have to buy the controller, but the hard stuff looks to be already done for you. I don't know if this is what you had in mind. Also another idea is the regular auto (assuming you already have one) and getting a gear vendors to bolt up to your existing trans.

thought I'd cover some out of the box ideas for you. My daily driver is a T-56, and a A4 car for track and playing around, that is the real best of both worlds. But Good luck on your build.

It would be a sweet mod, but ultimately it would be useless. Plus, everyone knows LT1s love the 4L60e .

    thanks for the advice guys!

Maki-- why do you say useless? the gearing in most of the six speeds paired with my 4.10s would put me right in the sweet spot trapping in the quarter. i shift into fourth right now which isnt ideal... plus better mileage!

and my Lt1 likes 4L60Es so much it has eaten a few now!

Or just get a TH350 with a gear vendors overdrive/split gearing box. You could have a badass 6spd TH350 (technically speaking)
