sbc's have been getting by with that same pump forever. What a bunch of people have frogotten is what you have is a basic sbc and people have been running bbc pumps them since the 70's. But if your pumping all the oil up and it isn't returning fast enough I would look to make sure that all the casting debree is cleaned out of the drain back holes.
What size oil pick up tube do you have? You can get that pump with two different sized pickup tubes. If you want to try the bbc pump you will have to buy a new oil pump driveshaft. I can't remember the right length of the shaft that you will need but the info is out there.So far 10.576 @ 128.64 on a 1.563 short time. I'm guessing that the pickup tube hole in the pump is a factory size. I don't know what the actual size is off the top of my head. I'm using a Canton pickup tube if that means anything. I just don't know the size of it. I will look into running a big block pump. Theres a few things i'm going to try, like running more of a zinc additive.
