how to align the haRminic balancer

Well I got done with the opti swap . . Realized the balancer can go on any one of three ways . . How can I tell hoW to put it back on . .

Just yesterday I finished doing some research on this issue. As some background, I'm in the process of a cam and heads change on my son's 96 LT1 Vette. After the cam install, I was faced with the same question, so I posted a question on several different Forums seeking advice. In my case the issue started at how to re-install the hub, since it can be pressed on in many different positions.

Hee's what I found:

First bring the crank gear DOT to the 12 o'clock position. If the timing chain cover is installed, you'll have to check the #1 and/or #6 piston(s) to determine that. Both should be at TDC; it doesn't matter which is on the intake or exhaust stroke. If your hub hasn't been removed you won't have to deal with that, but I did.

Then align the mark on the hub with 12 o'clock and press it on.

I was told that the balancer bolt holes will only align with the holes in the hub ONE WAY. They're supposed to be off-set in such a way that the balancer will only bolt on one way.

In my case, my balancer has a triangle cast into the casting, near one of the bolt holes. That triangle should also be pointed at 12 o'clock. In your case align it with the cast in mark on the hub.

The balancer is then pressed on and the bolts torqued. I used RED Lock-Tite on the three bolts too.
