did they really make 41k impala SS's in 1996? or does that production number include caprice 4 doors and wagons as well?

You'll get slightly different numbers from various websites, but they're pretty close. '96 had the highest production numbers because they built them all the way though December of '96. As you know, typically if a car is born after August it's considered the following model year. The rarest ones are the DGGM (Dark Green Gray Metallic) '95s.
1994 had 6,303 in black.
1995 had 9,858 in black; 7,134 in cherry; 4,442 in dark green gray.
1996 had 19,085 in black; 12,180 in cherry; 10,676 in dark green gray.
For the 1994 model year, it was available only in black with a grey interior. Due to a shortage of the unique 5-spoke aluminum wheels (manufactured by ROH in Australia), only 6,303 cars were sold. However, the wheel shortage was remedied for the 1995 model year and 21,434 cars were sold. In 1995, Dark Cherry Metallic and Dark Grey Green were added as exterior color options, and the body paneling on the rear quarter panel was altered to reflect the cosmetic effect formerly achieved by a window insert. 1996 was the last year of production with 41,941 units sold. The 1996 Impala SS production went late into the model year; some being produced as late as December 17, 1996.

damn, didn't realize that. i thought the 96 IMP SS was rarer than my 95 T/A. i guess not, lol. IIRC there were ~ 10k 95 T/A's made regardless of color/options. I could have sworn i read in a book that "GM plans to build 15k 1996 impala SS's and will definately sell every one) i think the book was written during the 95 model year and the announcement had been made that the 96 would be the end of the line.
i think it was dumb for GM to drop the B-body/D-body line. they basically gave the whole market to Ford.
oh and i saw one of the black 94's once that had fallen into the wrong hands. i could tell it was a 94 by the cover over the rear window to create the dogleg which was 94 only IIRC.
the photo was taken in FL back in late 2003/early 2004 (i can tell because thats my 93 tbird SC dash/hood)Last edited by BLK95TA; 06-04-2009 at 12:21 PM.
