    Default Ram Air Boxes

I'm thinking of getting a ram air box since I already have an SS Hood. My hood is an aftermarket SS hood (I was told it was a Suncoast, I haven't checked) so I have heard that a stock SS airbox will not work.

I see that Suncoast Creations sells a Ram Air box but it costs $315. RKSport also sells a Ram Air box and it can be found for around $199. Are the RKSport aftermarket hoods similar to the Suncoast ones?

I'm hoping they would be close enough so that I could use the RKSport Ram Air Box.

Don't be surprised if your thread gets moved to another section cause this doesn't really have anything to do with the LTX Shootout! Anyway, if you’re looking at spending $200.00 you'd be better off converting to an LS style intake. Assuming you want the ram air setup for performance reasons. The SS ram air setup is not that efficient and kinda ugly IMO. Don't get me wrong I love the SS hood just not the air induction setup under it! Pontiac had a better design than Chevrolet on this one. To me the SS is not much more than a CAI with more twists and turns for the air! Going with a traditional CAI from one of the many manufacturers (K&N, Moroso, etc.) or better yet an LS style will probably net you much more performance for your $$.

Yeah the SS hood isnt too.... straight forward like the ideal intake would be. Lots of corners and double backs. At least the Pontiac one comes right from the intake at the nose and STRAIGHT into the engine.

I agree that a normal CAI might just be the best/most cost effective mod for you. You can still have the hood though

Im moving this to the LT1 Tech section, you should get ALOT more responses there (I will PM you also).

Whoops. I meant to put this in the LT1 section - I guess at 4am they look the same.

As far as the Cold Air Intake being better than the Ram Air, I know. I have a Moroso intake, but I've always personally liked Ram Air.

As for swapping to an LS1 style intake - no thanks. I just wanted to make my hood functional the cheapest way possible.

Yeah, I think a little late night posting gets to all of us sometimes

The cheapest route would be to just keep it as is, but if you want to make it functional just go with the SS setup. It doesnt look the best, and it might not perform the best... But GM designed it to channel air and I suppose thats what it will do.

The stock SS setup won't work with aftermarket hoods - well at least that's what I've read.

Just keep the hood for looks. Why make it functioanl if it really does not help performance?

Agreed. Or, as said before, do the ls1 lid conversion. YOu will get a "box" on top. It looks good and I am sure people will notice because it is unique. Not to mention that it is supposed to out perform traditional CAIs and ram air setups.

Thanks for the suggestions guys but I've done ALL of my research and this is the way I want to go.

I just want to know if the RKSport Air Box will work with a Suncoast hood - that's all.
