Classic tags are the bomb. There's no yearly mileage restriction, the only catch is you're only supposed to drive your car 'once per week on average.' Nobody is keeping tabs on you though. Also, registration is permanent so you don't have to pay the state $40 every year and all you need is yearly safety inspection (which only costs ~$40). The county you live in doesn't matter, all classic vehicles only need 1 sticker. There is a grey area though which is that the visual inspection for emissions equipment technically falls under safety, but I have never gotten grief about it.
Most of the time they just check your tires, pads, lights, etc. and send you on your way. Some shops might get irked about passing a heavily modified car and make up some bs not to give you a sticker, but I know of a few shops/mechanics in the area that are pretty sympathetic to the racecar life.96 Z28 - ERE-383, AFRs, 9", Procharger D1, TermiX, etc.
