Default Looking for best bang for the buck ideas

Ok, so, I sold the 95 Z28 I had. Found a deal on something else I couldn't pass up but now that leaves me out a cruiser.
So, I already found a T56 and am picking up a complete 9C1 caprice next week that I'm pulling the motor out of. All of this is going into my 87 firebird. I already have a 3.42 posi 4th gen rear in the car. I also have sitting in the shed a set of SLP 1 5/8" shorty headers and a 4" mufflex exhaust with spintech dual outlet muffler that I was thinking of using.
Beyond that, everything else is wide open. The 6 speed Z I just sold had the hotcam package, bbk shorties, and a cai. Basically I'd like to come close to the same seat of the pants feel.
I'm not making a serious drag car but I will probably hit a few open track days (hence stripping the 9C1, external fluid coolers and all). Beyond that I just want a fun, healthy sounding cruiser.

So, without going overboard (don't really want to spring for heads but a cam swap is within reason) what would you guys recommend?

    My baby ^^

Lol, didn't bother to mention I also have a 2 stage kit going on for when the mood strikes. I want to get the most fun I can out of it off the bottle too though. I don't want to feel the need to constantly spray it

503 wouldn't be a bad choice for a cam, a little more power than the Hotcam, but still very streetable. You might also want to look into suspension upgrades to handle the new found power.
    Yep its slow.

Suspension is not an issue, I already have recently replaced shocks/struts, WS6 springs, Spohn adjustable rear trailing arms/panhard rod with all rod ends, 13" ZO6 brakes in the front, and 275's on all four corners.
When I do my swap I'm also planning to add an S&W race cars adjustable torque arm, and probably at least a 6 point bar if not a full cage.
So all the extra stuff is already covered. Power is usually last on my list. It's finally to that point now though.

If your budget is around $1k and you do all the work yourself I would go with a nice cam and valvetrain to support it.

Sounds like you already got that car pretty well balanced for more power, sounds good.
