Rebuild kits
Somebody explain to me.How one rebuild kit has 9.9.1 compression ratio.then the other has a 10.4.1 ratio. But thay both are the same.Everything is standard and OEM fit.Summit has 2 rebuild kits.the one that $499.00 says 9.9.1 compression ratio. The second says 10.4.1 and its $629.00.thers the same kit.the only difference is the $629 kit has the hyper pistons.can somebody explain this to me please?I really dont understand and am getting ready to buy a kit.

Best bet would be to call summit. Just a guess but maybe the 499 kit has alot bigger valve reliefs cut into them

The difference is the pistons, the $629 kit (forged) has a piston with a compression height that is .013 higher.
Just in case you are not aware, comp. height is the distance from the center of the wrist pin bore to the top face of the piston.
Just an fyi: I know you posted looking for a set of rods so IMO you should not even be considering a rebuild kit yet since you don't know
what length rod you are going to be running and may come across a great deal on something other than a 5.7" rod.Last edited by Revolutions; 07-25-2015 at 03:32 AM.

Thanks for the info,Im going to stay stock on the bottom end.Im doing a very small build. My daughters and wife like to drive the car.so I dont want no big power.
Another question tho. After getting my engine apart.its got hot.the end cap bearings were blued.Thats one reason Im looking into connecting rods. Will it be ok to run the connecting rods thats in it?Even tho they got hot?Last edited by beaver50; 07-25-2015 at 10:09 AM. Reason: add a question

your connecting rods should be just fine. Send them to a machine shop and have them straightened out. For the love of god get away from those rebuild kits. Get a nice piston just in case you decide to go with a power adder for more down the road. You do a small build and you'll want more eventually

Your connecting rods will be fine but you might consider stepping up not that you absolutely need to.
By the time you buy ARP bolts and have your rods reconditioned you are going to have spent about $220 with pressed piston or $275 with the rods machined/bushed for full floating pins.
For $300 (ebay) or $310 (flatlanderracing.com) you can buy a set of Scat Pro-Comp 4340 forged i-beams with 7/16 cap screws.

and to top that off summit price matches if you dont wanna order from an ebay site...
If I was building a 355, I'd put scat rods in and a good mid range forged piston and rings in it with cleavite or king bearings.94' Z28 A4 black: turbo build in progress

Im not even going to a 355.Im putting back factory stuff except for,I got Lloyd to have me a cam customed(lunati),lunati springs, lunati lifters, trick flow push rods,1.6RR and headers with some head work. That will be it for me.With a complete rebuild and these parts.that should be it for me and the girls. Its just going to be a nice little toy.At times we want to be able to take it on vacation.

If you want to build the engine back to stock spec's . 5.7 scat forged I beam rods will stock spec's with improved reliableity. Same will be for the pistons get a forged set with stock spec's.
Thanks way you will mantain stock power and increase your engines reliable and improve your reliability.
I would recommend it. It will not change your power out put to upgrade the LTX weak points.
Good luck with your building looking forward to reading your build thread.
