    Default Timing Cover

How hard is it to change a timing cover from a 96 to a 93 style?

Removing the timing cover isnt too bad. It depends how good you are with working on 4th gens.

You Have to remove the water pump, opti, crank hub and lower the front of the oil pan to remove the cover. It's a day worth of work in the garage with ordinary tools.

Its just time consuming dealing with coolant and stuff plus there is a difference going between those two covers. If you wanna keep the same opti you have to find a '95 cover but then also switch over to the longer style hub from 93-95 since they didn't have the crank sensor.

    Any reason for the switch?

You would have to change the cam also it uses a spline drive for the opti

You would have to change the cam timing gear, not the cam itself the dowel can just be shortened

My cam is for a 93-94 so my opti is for that style also and ive been fighting with a oil leak and I think its because the timing cover on the 93s have the small hole for the spline drive whereas the 96 have the big hole for the hub on the opti.

I bought this car with the wrong cam in it and I changed the opti for the correct one that goes with the cam and I wasn't leaking until recently I changed seals still there then yesterday while I was at work my dad was screwing around with it and re changed the opti seal and no more leak so I have no idea what the hell is going on with this car

If it has a 95-97 timing cover and a spline drive Opti you are going to have one hell of an oil leak. I doubt that is the case. But sounds like you got it figured out

Perhaps the 1st seal was damaged on install...it happens.
