    Default Vats?

Not too sure if it fits this sub forum but I've recently had the security light come on and stay on for the first 5 minutes of starting the car. Happened once before but now it's been occurring more and more often. No starting issues or anything like that; just curious as to why all of a sudden started doing that. Is it vats related? And should I be concerned. I don't want to end up somewhere stranded cause of it lol maybe these are warning signs that it's on the way out? Any help would be appreciated.

I think it starts to do this when its not getting a good enough connection in the ignition cylinder on the resistor.

Have it tuned out, or bypass it manually by measuring the resistor in the key. buying a resistor from radioshack, and wiring it into the tiny blue and grey wires under the drivers dash.

bypass the resistor. Tuning it out is only half of it. Bypass should fix that problem.

Ur gonna laugh... but we have a thread about "ghetto" or creative fixes to things and a member posted about licking his key. I laughed... but when the issue popped up for me... i stuck the key in my mouth... made sure to get the resistors wet... and VROOM. I know... sounds funny and def not a permanent fix... but figured id share.

I had a old small gold necklace in the car when mine quit..I wrapped it around the resistor once and it fired right up lol. But what did I do? Turned it off to see if it would start again. Lmao.
Next I ran around panicked trying to get back in the mall and radio shack and get a resistor

I believe @DanDalessandro just did this, so he can prob walk you through it. I had it tuned out of my computers, so no need for me to do the resistor mod.

Measure the silver pellets on the key with a multimeter(?) with it on the ohm setting. When you bypass the resistor, it allows the starter to engage. Tuning it out of the PCM deletes the need of the 60hz signal from the Theft Deterrent Module. The car can still not experience no crank stuff. Key lock cylinder damage from people ripping the key out is the main cause of this crap. The car will never shut off due to VATS while the car is already running.

Don't worry. I haven't even done it yet. Too damn lazy and I can't spell today lol.

But ya just measure the keys
