Th400 MVB problems.
I put a manual valve body in a th400 now it's not going into first. Takes off in 2nd when the shifter is in 1st. 2nd and 3rd work fine. Any ideas?
Its a Huges MVB kit. Came with one spring and two check balls. I did not reuse any of the old check balls. Maybe had 5 of them.Sean Foster

I figured he'd be able to point me in the right direction.

Have you tried disconnecting the cable at the trans and making certain the linkage is definitely going into the 1st position?

I have not. We put it on the lift an ran it threw the gears. It seemed to click into first.

Check to confirm that it's going into 1st completely. If it is, try driving the car. Some MVBs can be strange. While I've never seen one not have first, I've seen plenty that won't shift through all 3 gears with the wheels off the ground. They have to have resistance on them to shift.

Double checked to make sure the selector was going into first. It was. Pulled the MVB off and confirmed that everything looked like it should per instructions. Put it back together and still no first. It takes off in 2nd gear. Shifts to 3rd fine.
We gave up on trying to find the problem. Put the old vb on at its working fine.Sean Foster
