Help needed with wiring "setup"
This is how the car was wired from the battery when I got the car. I'm hoping this is what's causing my slow start/no start issue. Anyhow, I need you guys advice. How bad does it look? Should there be a wire running from the negative post to the back of the alternator? I appreciate any help, thanks.

Umm, that's not factory! I'm not sure what someone was trying to accomplish. The post on the back of the alternator should be going to the + side of the battery. There's a battery diagram HERE and HERE.
+ battery terminal should go to the red plastic junction block, the back of the alternator, and the starter.
- battery terminal should go to the side of the engine block and the inner fender near the power steering fluid reservoir.-Josh

96lt1355- Thanks! Would that explain why my negative post nearly melted the terminal end?

Definitely could cause some melting, fires, etc! How long has it been wired that way? Looking at your pics again it looks like they used brown small appliance (residential) power cord and added a ground wire from battery -, and added a + from the battery to the + post on the alternator, not sure what the goal was! Not quite as bad as the alternator case to +, or alternator post to battery -.

I just bought the car a few months ago. Haven't had time to mess with it till now. Your right about that being appliance cord. As far as replacing those wires, what options do I have? I thought about trying to find new oem replacements if possible or finding them on the forums. Are they the same for all years? Thanks again for the help

Supporting MemberInnovativewiring.com sells upgraded custom made battery cables for these cars. They are upsized, made from better wire, and have better terminals.

^^There you go, I always thought the cables that came in these cars was undersized. I made my current ones but I needed dedicated clean power for my EFI box. You might also contact BP Automotive, he's a sponsor here who makes harnesses. Bill did a great job making an electric fan harness for my truck. @green96ta
