Yea seems that everyone likes the crane tool. I just cant swing it right now due to the holidays and all the traveling and spending that includes lol... may have to invest in one in a few months.

Google search Tim's Valve Spring Tool. I got one, haven't used it yet, but I've heard they're great. Only around $30

This is my old faithful.
97 firehawk m6 with a forged long rod 355 stock heads and intake soon to be upgraded to LE 21* tfs heads and a big asscam , rpm built level 5 t56 trans s60 with 4.30 gears umi suspension walbro pump and hot wire kit and a spinning best 12.36 @ 114 crap 60 foot.

Crane tool is the way to go. if you have 7/16" studs just drill it out. It is set for 3/8" stock studs
