    A compression test would tell you if the valves are too tight, if that would be easier for you.

    I think I'll feel better if I go back through and readjust them.

    It runs! Re-adjusted the valves and it fired right up. Some were too tight for sure. Last time I spun the pushrods to find zero lash,then went 1 turn. This time I just took the play out of the rockers and then went 1 turn. I started at no.1 Tdc and went through the firing order 1/4 rotation at a time. Thanks for your help everyone.

    @Injuneer ftw!

    I've found that when adjusting valves on lifters that are completely empty (or have been sitting for a long time) you have to be VERY conscious of zero lash. Without having any oil in them they will be depressing the plunger and still have slack in them. On a new build I like to adjust valves before I put the intake on so I can keep an eye on just that. Congrats man!
