Had a leaking nitrous solenoid (dry system, nitrous nozzles in outlet of the ram air box). I had just brought it up to 5,000+ RPM for a burnout, and it popped. Everything stayed normal until I rolled out of the burnout, and the RPM stayed about 2,500. I just rolled to the line, waited for the green, and then just idled down the track. When we pulled the intake ducting off, the only thing that was damaged were the throttle blades. We felt the two nitrous solenoids and one of them was ice cold, indicating a leak. Not sure why it popped in a dry manifold, but it did. The top of the blades was normal, but the bottoms were bent forward at least 45*. I was able to straighten them back out.

Could the opti shredding cause the "pop" or could the "pop" cause the opti to shred itslf?

I'd say the opti caused it. I tore down an engine once and found the rotor had come apart..... so did the crankshaft

I don't use the opti rotor. I have an 8-coil direct fire system.

Ok well that makes me feel al little better! When we replaced the old opti we took it apart it was shredded, the screws were sheared off!

Is there a write up on how to do the conversion?

No. It was done 14 years ago, before anyone else was doing it. Opti cam position sensor feeds a MoTeC M48Pro engine management system, and the MoTeC 8-channel ignition driver fires 8 LS1 coils. System was developed by Second Street Speed in Perkasie PA, for George Baxter's 9.05-second, 4,000# 30th Anniversary SS. Seemed like a good design to me.
