    Default Oil pickup install help!!!!

Using Melling 10554 3/4 inlet. Using melling factory replacement 3/4 pickup. How the *bleep* do you press the pickup in? This darn thing is definatly tight fitting. Once i get it in and adjust i am going to tack weld it. Currently the pickup is in the freezer to contract it. This is going to be my 2nd attempt by freezing. Maybe it wasnt cold enough the first time. Any tips or tricks to this. I really do not want to heat the pump as well or should I?

Whenever I did mine I put some oil on it and then used the open end of a wrench that fits on the tube and it'll rest on the "bulge" or whatever you want to call it. Then I used a hammer and hit on the wrench until it was fully seated.

They make a tool that does a similar thing. But I didn't want to buy that when a wrench worked just fine. But yeah after you measure it and set it to the correct depth definitely tack weld it.

I put the pump in oven to 400 and pick up in freezer. Then it took light persuasion with a rubber mallet. Used a Jegs pickup tube keeper to secure tube.

I think i will try the oven as well then. Between the oven and the freezer i hope it would go on. I didnt have this much problem with my car, same pump but Canton pickup.
