There is a cable that runs from the auto shifter to the steering column, and locks the steering wheel when the trans is in "park". That it the "park/lock cable". The neutral safety switch is an electrical switch on the side of the trans and prevents the starter from engaging because is is wired in between the ignition and the theft deterrant relay.
Check the Shoebox article. He addressess installing and getting it in the right position, and has info about removing the park/lock cable. He also mentions a pin that may be in the new switch, that has to be removed.Last edited by Injuneer; 02-07-2014 at 05:55 PM.

The blue pin is just a pin that plugs off a little whole.I pulled it after the switch was installed.I just got to get it lined up I think.I just cant understand, when the steering column is unbolted. The key moves great. But when I bolt it back up.Thats when I have trouble with the key.

Are all of your steering column bolts back in and tight? Check to make sure nothing is binding up on the linkage from the lock cylinder to ignition switch

I figured it out.I needed to pull the ignition switch back toward the steering wheel. It was to far toward the engine and wouldnt let me key come back to the lock position on the key switch.
