Don't just ban the s/n. You have to check the ip on the backside. When I ran a forum I noticed that just about all of the people that caused problems had multiple s/n's. Some were clever enough to never log onto a device with both s/n's, like they'd use their pc for 1 s/n and then their phone for another, but every now and then they'll screw up. You'd be surprised how any people have a different name just to browse.

Yeah we can ban by IP if it's an issue. Maybe I'm lax, but I usually wait to ban by IP (because of it being a separate task) if it's an issue. Banning by IP is only effective if the user has one dedicated IP address. A lot of internet service providers switch people's IPs on a regular basis. Also now adays it's as easy as logging in on their phone through the mobile network to bypass IP blocks since you'll get a bunch of different IPs on your phone using the mobile network. Also if you login from home, work, school, etc those are all going to be different IPs.

When I used to ckeck an ip address, the vBulletin software would store many ip's for a particular s/n except for people with cable modems. Then I could click on an ip, and it would list every s/n that ever logged on to the site using it. It was useful to weed out the bad people.
There is also another tool that you can use. I forget the name of it, but it's "bad user" or something like that. Basically you apply it to a particular s/n, and every time that person logs on, the pages load incredibly slow, or they get vB database error messages, lol. Frustrates the hell out of them until they just leave altogether. I don't know if it's an actual vB tool or if it's a patch you can apply to the backside. I'm pretty sure it's the latter.'94 coupe, 10.15 at 133.65 414" LT1, 4500 stall, n/a, pump gas, mufflers, street trim
