A change from a '95 to a '97 trans would require a different valve body, separator plate, and internal transmission wiring. GM changed the 3-2 downshift strategy in '96. The solenoid is different and uses a different resistance. The valve was changed to a 1 piece design and the plate lost a hole.

Looks like he's going to.just buy the software for an OBD2 computer.
