Exhaust help
Seeing that my car doesn't see as much street use as it used to I got the idea to change my exhaust. My idea is to get rid of the exhaust and just do mufflers with turn downs straight off the headers. I figured it would save some weight and maybe free up some power over the y pipe and flowmaster. Would it be worth it? If so, what mufflers would you recommend?

I run a pair of 3" Borla XR-1 race mufflers. I deleted a Mufflex 4" catback, and dropped about 40#.

Injuneer do you have any side pics of your exhaust setup? I'm intrested in the ground clearance with those XR1's tehy look like the oval ones. I have been debating a setup like yours over my X pipe. I don't know if the 3" X really did much over my 3" to single 4" Y pipe. I've read the H or X pipe's help exhaust flow depending on the setup, I just wonder if mine really needs it.
Sorry for the thread jack OP.-Josh

This may help.... it's all I can find. I have AS&M mid-length headers, with the driver's side modified to point straight back, rather than attach to a Y-pipe the curves around the front of the engine. The collectors are extended to end where the mufflers start. If you look at the height of the pipes, the bottom of the muffler is only about 3/4" below the bottom of the pipe. When I had the front of the car lowered about 1.8", the mufflers never hit anything, but a clamp with the bolts facing down hit the bolts on bumps. The heavy duty front torque arm mount it about as low as the mufflers. It is "dropped" to make room for the 4" Mufflex, which was removed.

Thanks, have you noticed any difference inside the car with the turndowns facing towards each other vs. down or out? There was a thread on the bullet about it awhile ago and everyone has their own opinion as to which is better, quieter, safer, etc!
What legnth did you go with?Last edited by 96LT1355Z28; 08-17-2013 at 06:56 PM.
