Back in 2009 I had another transmission built for my car. It was a rmvb th350 with a 2.75 1st gear, and a 4400rpm converter from a local shop. The transmission in the car at that time was from the same shop but it was a forward pattern, and I was running a 5200rpm Art Carr converter. I was still rocking the stock shortblock engine at the time. When the new tranny was done I swapped them out, and just out of curiousity I put the new converter in as well. I took the car to the track and it was a turd out of the hole. It wouldn't launch at all, not even on the brake. As I said before it lost 3 tenths in the 1/8th (probably half second in the 1/4). The following day the 5200 converter went back in, and it went right back down to 7.0's the next time at the track. I later went out and ran an 11.11 with that combo. I never got a chance to run it in some great air, but i'm sure at Cecil (like last November) it would have gone 10's.

I'm not sure any of you guys have driven a car with a REAL 4000 stall converter in them. As for all these cars being high HP? Yes, they are, but Protorque has just as many lower HP cars running impresssive numbers, including the 9 second Impala SS that I posted videos of...the one with the 3200 stall in it. Who else in this thread is running 9'8s?... With 4200#?... Cutting 1.39s? All you guys with your 4000 stall converters feel free to chime in here.

Now, I'm not going to argue about this anymore. I answered the O/P question with information I got from the best converter manufactuerer out there. If some of you believe that your 3000 stall converter is actually a 4000+ stall, just because that's what you were told, or what was written on the box you bought it in at a swap meet, that's up to you. You all can continue to spread misinformation and argue among yourselves. If any of you want a real education, just pick up a phone and call Protorque. BTW, Joe Rivera (owner of Protorque) is the head of the Torque Converter Rebuilders Association. He's the guy all other converter builders go to when they have questions. I challenge anyone to call Joe and tell him you want to put a REAL 4000 stall in a street car... Or anything with a cam as small as a CC503.

I think you've pled your case frank. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar. They'll either take your advice or not. No need to talk negatively about the competition.

I get your point. I'd just be amused if I could see some of these guys drive a street car with a REAL 4000 stall converter in it. I just did one for an '05 GTO. The customer insisted on a 4000 stall, because that's what all of his forum friends were running. granted, they weren't Protorque converters. Most likely alot less actual stall. I ordered the converter and immediately got a call back from Joe, telling me he didn't want to build a 4000 stall for that combo because it was too much. The cam in the car has over 240 duration and .640+" lift. I assured Joe the customer was insistant so Joe agreed to build it. When the customer picked the car up, he asked why it felt like crap. Why was it a pig at lower RPMs? That's because he had a TRUE 4000 stall. It made the car feel like crap.

I run a BTE lock up 4000 stall drive it to work every day and love it these cars need a little help getting movin. And mine moves just fine and oh gets 21 mpg

LOL, you talk about my local guy like he's a shmuck. He built tranny's and converters for Dan Fletcher for years and years and he's got a Wally or 2. Ever hear of him? His massive shop would say that he knows what he's doing. He's been in the game for 25+ years. His name is Carl and he owns Competition Transmission. He's a great guy.
Yeah I realize Art Carr doesn't have the reputation, but it stalled at 5200.
My current converter stalls at 4400. When I depress the tranny brake it hods right there. Maybe my tach is off by 1400rpm according to you.
You boast about that Impala, and it does scoot. I've seen it in person. What is he spraying? Um............north of 250? Not taking away from it's ET, but the tremendous torque spike when the nitrous hits makes for the necessity of a smaller converter. Run that Impala on the motor and tell me what happens. I agree with firebird 1995 no reason to bash other companies. This thread makes me feel like im looking at ls1tech with all the bashing and negitivity
