    Default Oil pump drive gear

Well my cam ate the drive gear. I am trying to figure out which gear to get now. The GM melonized gear or a composite gear or maybe something better you guys know of? I just want some LT1 guys opinion who have maybe been in my position before I go spending money. Any help would be appreciated!

The cam looks to be fine. Here are some pics, what do you guys think?

I don't remember the part number but when my CC503 ate the cam gear I bought an everlast distributor hardened gear from Jegs.

When it happened to me I had a stock gear and it was a CC503. It's a known issue where aftermarket cams will "eat" the stock oil pump drive gear.

There easy to change it. Once you get the intake manifold off. OP Get a GM melonized gear. Its what GM suggests useing whenever you do a cam swap. I was stupid and didnt realize that until after my LT1 chewed through 2 came gears. The first was the stock 180k mile gear and the next was the POS! Lunati Everwear. I had the dreaded stamped 13 unit. Which if you do research on was a bad batch from the manufacturer.

Hrm, I have the Lunati Everwear gear in my car now. It's only been a few thousand miles though... hope I don't have issues with that.

I was just cruising, saw the 'CHECK GUAGES' light come on and I put it in nuetral and costed to a stop and shut if off. I started it 3-4 times after that to check thiings like loose wires and if oil was pumping up to the heads. The last time I started it, it sounded like it had a stock cam. I am guessing the lifters bled out. It ran maybe a total of 2 minutes after I saw the guage read 0.
