Default LT1 in LS1 chassis.. help?

Hey guys. My buddy wrecked his 96 formula, so he finally found a good deal on a midnight blue 99 trans am chassis. He wants to swap his LT1/6-speed into that car since it's what he has.

Anyone ever done this swap and know what needs to be switched over for the motor to run? He's trying to avoid having to change the body harness but I feel like that's inevitable.

Any tips would help! He has his old 96 complete as a donor car.

Swap it all. The body harness is different. Not sure on the v8 cars but i know on 3.8s the trans crossmember has to be modified. Fuel lines have to be switched and either hidden or the inner fender has to be cut and shaped for them.

I've done it. You need ALL wiring from the LT1 car. Fuel system is different, ABS is different, wiring is completely different. It's not as easy as some might think.

Thanks for the tips guys. He's probably just going to swap everything over from the other car so he knows what he's working with.

Does the dash have to be pulled to do this? We were looking at it and it almost looks like you can run the harness through the dash without having to take it out.

I swapped the entire I/P harness to avoid pinout headaches. I know dash swappers have had issues using a 98+ gauge cluster because the pinouts are different, and the tach signal is different. I don't have enough info to comment more on that. But I was throwing all my wiring into a V6 car, so I didn't bother to try and keep any of it.

Also, if you want to keep the 98+ ABS system, there's another potential wiring headache.

I say sell the LT1 drivetrain and put an LS-1 in it, you will be happier. I might have just sinned by saying that on this board, but clearly, I am jus..sayin
