Need some paint help.
I've got a 97 T/A. I have a Ram Air hood sitting in my parents basement that needs paint. Also have a couple gouges in my bumper cover i need to fix, not to mention the bumper cover has the typical paint discoloring.
I have a buddy who worked in a body shop for quite a few years, and he would do the paint work for me as long as I provide supplies. While that is a great situation, I have no idea what I'll need for supplies, how much, or where to get it from. I know some of the obvious, primer, base coat, clear coat, reducer, and sanding supplies, but beyond that, I'm and idiot.
If you guys have any suggestions or good places to get supplies, and at what cost? I really appreciate any help you guys can give me.

Napa, carquest, and o-reilys sells automotive grade paint for professional refinishers. As far as what to get, you should leave that up to the guy doing the work. Ask him to make you a list of what he likes to work with.

PPG's cheap Shopline line of products is a good line. With GM red, it's not going to match unless you plan on blending it to the rest of the front clip. You can just panel paint the hood and nose with single stage, it'll be close match and cost you about half what a base/clear blend job will. Piant has gotten expensive, you're looking at 120.00 a qt just for the base.

Do not mix & match brand names. Stick with one, they are made to work together.

Find a local who has good reputation . The more you pay is typically the better job. Don't be cheap because a year down the road the same shit will happen.

Well since you have your painter chosen... why dont you just go over to his shop, and let him order what he wants, and you pay for it...
When I worked at the body shop... we used to call and order our supplies, and they would deliver right to the shop....

Well...the painter doesn't have a shop, just going to do it out of his garage. I'm not aiming for perfection as the car has plenty of chips, I mostly want it one color and looking good for a 185K mile daily driver.
I guess my best bet will be to go to Napa or the like, and have them piece me together a "kit". I'm not *super* concerned with cost, as long as I'm not getting screwed on prices.
The biggest thing is I have no idea the amounts of supplies I'll need. Think a quart of primer, quart of base and a quart of clear enough to do a hood, top and bottom, and a bumper cover?

If the hood is the same color you could probably get away with a pint of basecoat. If you dont clear the underside of the hood i think a quart of clear would get it. I always seem to use a lot of clear ( don't know if its normal or not) but a quart of clear doesn't go far for me. I've sanded off many a panel of orangepeel. I've learned id rather file off a run than wetsand and buff clear for days. Again, the guy spraying it should be able to tell you how much he uses.
