    Default Opti questions..

    My car has been dead for a month or 2.
    I just want to be sure it's the opti before I dump any of the banks money into buying a dist.

    The car completely died when it got cold, before that I had misfires/hesitation upon full throttle @ high rpms. Sometimes it wouldn't want to turn on, the idle would sometimes be choppy...

    The car now cranks, if that's the proper term, when I turn the key; but the car won't turn on. It can do that until it drains the battery...

    I have no vehicles at my house, and nothing to do tests with..


    My other car just died yesterday, and I'd rather fix the Camaro.
    How long is the job?

    to change the opti is a couple hour job. Yes well all know as many of the other will and badbird has illustrated. The opti is evil sometimes. But I think it might be you ICM. Can't remember off the top of my head but I know there is a test for it. Search the forum and you shall find it.

    If its your first opti change I would give yourself 4-5 hours.

    Ah yes. i remember my first opti change. It was a hot summer day and i was cursing alot. Now I have it down to a science. In and out in 45 mins.

    My coil was changed.. last xmas. LOL come to think about, I've never had a healthy Camaro for the holidays. But if history repeats itself, should be good by Jan/Feb. I think I'll just bus it for now.

    4-5 hours? 45 min? Any pointers you can offer from your developed, shoot them my way please. I was planning to change the w pump as well since I believe that was the culprit.

    45 mins when you have a caprice. Before you just throw parts at it. I would check the ICM.

    Agreed and no real tips we can give you. Just pull the wp and crank pulley and pull it out. I personally pulled my radiator and fans the first time. The second I didn't. What takes so long is pulling all the hoses off the water pump. Be sure to drain the radiator completely or you will be getting a bath. First time took me a few hours, second time about an hour it was done. Just take your time the first go around. I got in a hurry and didn't clamp a hose good which resulted in my second opti swap. The same day lol

    I would definitely check out the ICM before going after the OPTI. It's much easier to get to and cheaper to replace.
