    Default Winter Tips

Since I hit a dear earlier my car has been parked before I wanted to put it away. But for those of you that have to put your car away for the winter because of the snow and cold. Was wondering if you have any tips for anything that should be done.

    This is what I did.

Drained ~1 Gallon of water from the Aftercooler Tank, replaced water with RV Anti-Freeze. (Car is in a heated garage, but It still get's cold in there don't want to risk it).

Hooked up a 1 amp trickle charger/battery maintainer.

Filled the gas tank and put in Stabil.

Put the cover on and called it a day.

Right now my tank is empty and it's uncovered in my driveway. Been that way for about 3 weeks. Going home this week and I'm going to drive it some over the holiday.

I'll leave it with ~1/4 tank, covered, with the battery disconnected. Whenever I'm back for a weekend I'll uncover it and start it. If the streets are clean and it's dirty under the cover I'll take it out for a car wash and recover it.

I'd take the battery out, just my personal preference. Fill the tank and put the stabil in. I don't like leaving room in the tank it tends to accumulate moisture and water in gas is not a good thing. I'm actually using the marine formula stabil due to it's ability to work better in fuels with methanol. Plus I had it laying around from using it with the boat.

That is really about all I can think of..

If rodents are going to be a problem, put the car on jack stands and take the wheels off. Get the jack stands to sit in a container of oil underneath them (While still being stable of course). Messy, but its a heck of alot better than getting any wires/interior chewed up. Not to mention a dead rat isn't going to smell any kinds of good if it dies in the vents somewhere.

I don't know if this is really going to benefit you for just storing it over winter, but I've seen a guy with some collector cars do this. Those get stored for YEARS without ever being out.

I've heard that some people will put a gigantic thin plastic sheet under their cars too over the winter. I havent ever done it, but if someone knows what I am talking about, and could expand farther, it might be worth doing as well.

put fuel stabilizer in and go for a spirited drive so it mixes with at least 3/4 tank and gets into the entire fuel system.

then check the antifreeze. there's little testers you can get that let you know how cold you can go and still be safe w/ the amt. of antifreeze you have in it.

disconnect the battery, or take it out

wash it good and cover it with a good quality cover

get it in the air on jack stands

some people go as far as plugging the exhaust tips up as well, also to keep rodents out of there

if you have a good enough cover that is pretty thick i would think pulling the cover down over the tailpipes would suffice
