How I got my camaro
I got this jewel of a quad off of craigslist for $500 Its a honda 400ex and had a Yamaha R1 already on it. The frame was stretched 4 inches, swingarm had been stretched 4 inches It was inover haul and alot of work. It had some high points and alot of low points!!!!!! The clutch cable was missing, the clutch was shot and came out in pieces, not plates. cam chain and tensioner was wore out, the trans was popping out of second and third gear.
I'm extremely thrifty and can follow a budget that i givemyself. I gave myself a $1500 budget, had a clutch cable made, bought and installed a new clutch, cam chain and tensioner, and battery. I thought to myself shes ready to ride......I was wrong. Hammer the throttle in first, second and third and it would just pop out of gear. So again, i pull the engine out and tear it completely apart. I bought a trans off ebay and put it in, and reassemble it all. for those of you that have never done this, its quiet easy and not a bad job. this was my first first time to ever work on a motorcycle engin like this. any way, this time it was right. so i jump on it, and tear off up the road, and this thing absoluteley screams!!!! I didnt hve a muffler on it, just the header and OMG it would scare the kids and make old women piss themselves!!! so as I was riding i noticed the rear wheel was bouncingup and down. I ended up replacing all the bearings in front and rear, with new brake pads all the way around. I bought some dirt track racing tires, that are also used for drag racing, and that was my point. I never got to take it down the track, but i do know that its a 6.50 quad easy. I had thing going 156mp on the nobby tires and it ws skatingaround like crazy so i let out of it in fear for my life. so i put it back on craigslist looking for a camaro, and boom, this guy shows up with my camaro. I really miss the fourwheeler, it was a blast to ride and am kinda wanting to build another one.
I couldnt stand the yellow, so I painted the plastics matte black, with a silver metallic frame. The seat cover i had done out of new jerey i think, and polished the fuel tank. It was a 1005 better than when i started. Oh, and the matte black, is actually plasti dip, so if the new owner didnt like it, he could just peel it off like a vinyl sticker.

That's a cool quad! I bet that's scary to ride and killer at the dunes. I had a couple of close calls on my Raptor and it obviously was nothing near that powerful. Could you do much else with it besides straight line?

honestly it wasnt as scary as most thought. Ive ridden quads since i was about ten and im really comfortable on them. I did some trail riding on it with the nobby tires, that was a handfull, but nothing like blasting through the woods and jumping it at 100mph. It did have the speedo off the r1 bike. the speedo reads off the trans, but im not sure if it was correct because of the small tires on the rear, but if it was, didnt take much to reach 100mph. I'm a big guy and I could sit on it normal, dump the clutch at about 6,000 rpms and the front would only come up about a foot. it went straight and was just a beast. I want to build another one. I also changed the gearing and that made a big difference in the way it ran. had alot more bottom end. It reminded me of riding a chopper because of the stretch in the frame. The guy that owns it now has ran it once down the track and it went 7.80 at around 105. He babied it out of the hole. I told him the next time he takes it to the track to call me. He said he would let me take it on a pass. I also flipped the shift pattern where 1 up, 5 down to make it easier to shift on the track.
Popo, I agree, especially with a family now. Definitely safer in the camaro. Ive wanted one of these cars since they came out. They look like a bullet and fast sitting still.
