Default So......Looked at a LTx Car Today......

NOT for me. My buddy who was going to purchase 1BadZ's car but the deal fell through. There's a guy VERY local to me selling a low mileage 96 Z28 with a Paxton blower on it for.......cheap.

    http://harrisburg.craigslist.org/cto/3290096213.html

So me being the LTx F-Body Guru, my buddy in want of a car, we took a look at it this morning.

Not bad. Low mileage as stated. Interior was VERY clean save for just a bit of wear on the drivers bolster. Has a damn car phone in it. Apparently the previous owner bought it new and had the phone put in....old guy......whatever. Pain is good save for some chips. Just a little door ding on the passenger quarter, but on the top surface of the drivers quarter there's some rippling that I've never seen before, though the car didn't give me any true signs of a wreck.

Here's where it gets weird though. There is some damn WEIRD suspension setup on the back. The TQ arm is gone. In it's place is a "Southside" Traction Bar setup. I've never seen one before, but it has mounts in the subframe connectors that welded and tied bars attach to, with the other end attaching (welded) to the rear axle housing?!?!?!? It transmitted a SHIT TON of road noise into the car. Probably hooks like a mofo though.

Motor is supposedly a stock GM replacement under warranty about 10k miles ago. Looking at it, other than the headers and the cut off tips flowmaster, it's ALL stock. Now on to the blower.

This is, I believe, a Paxton SN93 blower kit. NON-Intercooled, rear facing intake and discharge from the blower. FMU is a plate that mounts behind the TB with 3 injectors in it. Odd setup. Downside is I have NO clue what the blower kit is capable of, or how in the hell he'd improve on it and get an intercooler in there with the discharge on the head unit facing the rear of the car.

I'm probably going to recommend he pass on the car because it's essentially a stock car with the paxton on it. The rear has 4.11's but they're toasted, very very noisy, so that'll need some fixing. Just wondering what you all think? It's an A4 too. Another thought I had was to pull the blower kit off the car, sell that for $1200-1500 as that's the going rate, and put that into "other' enhancements.

Oh, and ALL of the emblems (including the horrid ones on the sail panel) are GOLD, the fill letters on the rear bumper are GOLD, the wheels are god awful chrome and GOLD. The ground effects kit is complete and in good shape, paint match is ok, but if left off, there's screw/rivet holes in the rocker panel. The wing my buddy said would be the first replacement thank god.

Thoughts? Anyone familiar with the Paxton blower that's on the car, and can share some insight?

They work great on a 5.0 Mustang LOL, all seriousness tho if the car is a great deal then rethink it in the terms of can this be "fixed" or not but if this person wants a ton of cash for it then pass on it and keep looking.
Southside machine makes some killer stuff for the Foxbody crowd and I have owned their stuff myself and its quality made.
Weird gold stuff takes away from resale value but you may have a hard time telling the owner that just because they think its cool its not so be much to somebody who is looking to make it their own.

Car has potential but the gold, spoiler, and wheels would have to go. The Walmart foglights would be next.

Edit - oh and I'm not really seeing $4200 worth of car sitting there personally.

Right, it looks to be a 2000 dollar ride with a supercharger. What power is it making?

the miles is what makes it worth something, hell it has less than mine.. the spoiler, badges, fog-lights, and wheels are easy fixes but will cost a few bucks. as for a paxton, i didnt know they even made a kit for ltx cars. Is it a cobbled together DIY thing? The rear could be costly to fix, or easier to just replace it with a standard f body tq arm rear setup. I would see if he would take $3500 just casue the milage on the body is so low and it appears to be pretty straight and clean. The replaced/warrantied motor makes me suspicious.. did the paxton cook the last one? How do you get GM or anyone to replace a motor in a 16 year old car under warranty?

Also the rippling on the tops of the quarters can be the semi common ones from hard launches. I have them on the tops of both of my quarters and I know it has never been hit in the rear.

I'd walk away for that price. That's LSX territory. Maybe if he lowers it about 1200-1500, it'd be worth your while. Just my opinion, of course.

    Sean...

I think it has potential... if tuned well and running good.... i dont think 4g for that low milage with a blower is bad. Yes it may be LS1 price but if its an ltx the guy wants...

as said earlier... wheels wing and emblems are an easy fix and my camaro also has the wavy quarters... i thought it had something to do with how tight the suspension is.... but it wasnt there when i got it... and it has not been hit...

Finally, what are his plans for the car? eventually build a motor or mods etc??? if so i wouldnt worry bout the boosted stock motor esp if low boost and it runs good...
