    Smile 95 lt1 issues

Hi, first,I just joined, not the best at navigation here,so.I am sure this subject has been covered many times. Here goes. I just bought a 95 Tarns am convertible, 101k miles, original owners, auto, green, trans perform button, all totally stock, grey leather, black top, loose rear window. I sat since 2007 with only occasional starts and movements around the block. I got it started after sitting 9 months, loaded it on a trailer and headed for home(200 miles) on the way,I blasted the snails and grime off the engine, and everywhere else. (ca clean car,no rust)

I went to start it up the next day and it would not, found a bad coil wire.(seems a mouse got it)replaced it and then it stared up and I took it for a quick spin ,ran good. I pulled it in the garage for the night. A couple of days later as i had some time,I pulled the 1/2 ass wire i made work for the coil and installed the new correct one. While there,i cleaned the throttle body with the correct cleaner. Went to start it and nothing .tried again and again. As soon as you let off the key...............it would try and run backwards blowing out exhaust thru the intake..............What the heck!.

Ok,I read up a little, possibly got the cap wet....well,maybe,I pulled the lower vent and stuck a hair dryer up there for 2 hours, still same thing. Now,I then dug into it...pulled the water pump(fun) cap is ready to come off....got to get the stupid reverse torx in town (30 minutes away)

Well, anyone think I am on the right track? Thanks,Scott

Well, first off congrats on the purchase. It sounds like you are in the right track. Sounds like the problems are ignition related. I would start first with the basics, plug wires, coil, icm, plugs. If that dont do it, then it might be the good old opti... Good luck...

You can probably check to see if you damaged the iac valve while cleaning the throttle body. shbox has a page that shows how to check the iac using a multimeter. That might cause the car to not start, and maybe the exhaust air through the intake.

EDIT: and welcome to the site!

    -Have you checked fuel psi?
-Will it run with the gas pedal depressed?
-Is the coil putting out spark?
-Is there water in the base of the opti harness/ how do the pins look?

I know it's kinda late since you've already torn into it but awnsers to these questions can help!
