    Default Clutch Brands

I am having my transmissions looked at for a vibration and aluminum shavings in my trans fluid. I figured while I've got the trans out I might as well replace the 3 year old Zoom HP Kevlar clutch. It was not slipping but after 3 years of beating on it I don't really want to put it back inside the PITA SFI bellhousing! I have called McLeod, Spec, and Competion Clutch and I keep getting different answers and suggestions as to what I should use.

What are you guys using or have you used that you liked or didn't like. Personal or first hand experience only please, car see 90% of it's life at the track on slicks and the rest is street time. (around 450 RWTQ)

FWIW Spec told me a stage 1 or 3 would work and told me to stay away from the 2 and 2+ due to the kevlar being in them. He said nothing about the 3+ I was intrested in. Obviously a 1 is not the way to go for me and I don't want the chattering of a puck style. Competition clutch said the only one they could reccomend that would hold the power I make is a solid hub ceremic puck style that's NOT street friendly. Mcleod gave me a part number for a 600 series disc and then a generic pressure plate number that will not fit and LT1. They said the street twin was not needed for my car. I would just buy the Zoom again but the Kevlar needs a solid 500 mile break in and I have an index race 2 weeks from today! A friend of mine got a T56 conversion kit from American Powertrain, he said they knew their stuff so I called them. They build clutches in house to order for your needs. I have a sprung hub full faced ceremic disc (similar to the Spec 3+) and PP commin for $400.00! Sales/tech guy said they're also a dealer for Spec and noted the PP in the 3+ kit is a little too agressive. They have a 24/7 tech line also, just another company to consider when shopping for a clutch!

Street Twin from McLeod. Buttery smooth, grabs nice and hard, slippable enough to drive on the street, rebuildable infinitely for $450 a pop after the initial investment.

The 3 and 3+ are nice with a light pedal, but they can chatter a bit too from what I've experienced. But if you're really gonna give it hell, I'd recommend the twin.

Ok, back at this again! The clutch I got from American Powertrain is slipping and is out of the car now. I just ordered a Spec 3+ and of coarse now I notice the centerforce DFX is available for our cars also. Spec has such mixed reviews but looking at ls1tech fastest 6 speed list there's 1 DFX and like 5-6 Spec 3+'s in cars faster than the DFX. I like the weights in the DFX that help clamp with rpm. When it's all done with shipping the cost diffrence is less than a dollar! Any input, I know I should be considering a street twin but I don't really have the $600 for this clutch much less $1,200 for the street twin.

Sucks to hear that man. Have you contacted AP and see if they have any warranty to get a refund?

Im running a spec stage 2+ in my car. And i have no complaints. And i street drive my car. Its a little aggressive when engaging. but i like it.
