I like using brake cleaner or grease & wax remover because it cleans awsome and evaporates quickly so you dont need to wipe anything and leave lint behind

    This.

I've also had good luck with Super Clean. That steam cleaner SHOULD knock most of it off but we all know nothing ever goes according to plans.

Steam pressure washer should do a pretty good job Make sure you wear a face mask. It going to blast gunk everywhere. IMO skip the engine degreaser. A regular alkali based degreaser will do just fine if not better and cost less. Greased Lightening, Purple Power, etc. Get yourself a small wire brush to brush the stubborn parts. Dry well with a clean lint free towel. Tape it off, and paint.

I used Por-15's engine enamel on my build. Stuff is pretty tough. Handles power steering fluid, and brakleen very well. They sell a kit here. http://www.por15.com/ENGINE-PAINTING...ductinfo/EPKA/ Its not cheap, but It will be the last time you paint it if done right.

EDIT: If you have too much money and want it done simply amazing. Try dry ice blasting it

its going to be broken down to the short block. I am going to to put all new gaskets in I am not sure if I am going to rebuild the lower end till i pull the cam out and look at the first bearing. The engine has 90k on it.

I love por15 i use it all the time. the napa by me actually stocks it but im not sure if he has engine paint or not.

    thanks you for advice guys.

I just painted mine. Decreased w/ purple dragon, but my machine shop vatted the block. I used break cleaner after that. He recommended dupli-color paint. Looks good, we'll see if it lasts: )
