Thread: v1 to v7 ysi

    Default v1 to v7 ysi

I have a forged 383 9:1, Cr cc305, stock ported heads and intake. Front mount intercooler, and m6. My question is will I make a lot more power running a v7 ysi over my v1?

yes but(lol there's always but) how much are you willing to spend to get it? and how much do you want to get out of your setup? when we switched over we got a rude awaking and quickly found out the short falls in out setup.

Well as far as spending more, the v7 ysi was given to me. Are you saying that if I'm making 550rwhp with the v1 I might make 650rwhp with the v7 but I'm going to need more fuel and that kind of stuff?

if you want to get the most from a ysi combo your going to need to make big changes.
#1 the block should have splayed mains. a regular 4 bolt block may hold but you would have to watch for main cap walk.
#2 the crank will need to be cut for 2 key ways.
#3 pistons need to be a 2618 material.
#4 your cam is to small to make big numbers.
#5 a basic ported stock head is not going to cut it. we run arf 210's and even they are on the small side of what should be used.
#6 the fuel system. think big. like 96lb hr injector as a minimum big. we run a eliminator pump on 16v dc with 150lb hr injectors. -10 supply lines.
#7 controlling the beast. stock ecm is not going to cut it. i hit the tuning brick wall at 4500 rpm with the stock ecm. it just could not deliver the fuel to keep up. we ended up going with fast. but there several other options that will do a better job.
#8 intake pipe to the ysi should be at least a 4" pipe with the biggest filter you can find.
#9 the air to air is a question mark. i run a2w with a ice tank.
#10 the blower pulleys. the ysi does not have a bunch of setup ratio so you need to run a big crank wheel. we run a 8.5" crank and a 2.95 top wheel. you cant run any small of a top wheel. we tried and were breaking belts ever 4 runs.

please don't take this post the wrong way. most all things i have learned the hard and expensive way. and i am just trying show you what it takes to get the most out of it.

Big cat. Thanks for the info. I understand that without changing my set up I won't get the most out of a ysi but just doing a v1 to v7 swap it will make more power? The v7 was free so its not like I spent a ton on it but my thought is being that the ysi flows so much more cfm 15psi on a v7 will make more power then 15psi on a v1. I know that sounds like a lot of psi but with my small heads and cam its going to build some pressure. Lol

Boost psi is volume with no were to go. When we switched from the t- trim to the ysi we picked up about 1.5 psi. We made no changes other than swapping the head unit. and there are some gains on the efficiency side.

    edit:

one of the areas you should look at it your inlet pipe. if your running the stock stuff from vortech there's free(almost free) boost to be gained by going to a larger inlet pipe and filter. we were only making 6.5 psi boost with a 6.66/2.75 combo with the stock inlet pipe. i made a 4" steel pipe and put a large k&n filter and instantly picked up 4.5 psi.
