Default intermittent slow cranking on start up, bad starter or opti

so i get a slow crank condition which throws a code for low res failure each time it does it. some times it cranks fast and fires right up and throws no code. the cel never comes on though. i only see the code if im plugged into the pcm with my laptop. it sounds like a crappy starter. But could it be my opti spark? its less than year old.
I put new terminals on my battery and checked my ground but havent checked the wire at the starter. I dont get how a bad starter would trigger that code though????

There is a chance that the code could be the Opti's fault. But if its cranking slow you most likely have a starting issue. What kind of terminals did you use? Solder on type or the ones with 2 1/4"-20 bolts and little plate you slide the wire under? They dont usually make a good connection and that could be the source of you intermittent slow cranking. I would then test the battery.

I don't see a difference between the 93 and 96 corvette starters. doesnt look like alot of people are using either one. anyone have info on this. I have searched and come up with different opinions

Take the starter off and bench test it. I put a starter on my in-laws F-350 right at a year ago. It started cranking slower, and slower, and slower till it stopped. I was set on it being a bad ground. Replaced all the ground cables. Took the starter off and took it back to the store. He took it apart and found a broken solder. He fixed and and problem solved.

How is your battery? Is there a certain time when it cranks slow?

battery read 12.68v it cranks slow all the time , about every other time. even after driving alot ....cd player spits cd out usually when it happens too. I still havent had time to get under the car and check m connection at the starter.
I had the same problem before my opti started to fail and it seemed to go away once i replaced the opti, but then it came back
