Thanks man. When my tranny went out i looked for a cheap t56. I did find one for $850 but then i found a 4l60e with 20k on it for a trade of my mechanic services on craigs list

Out of your list of stuff to do, do the 6-speed swap first if you're able. It'll make a WORLD of difference in how you look at your car. I was in a similar position a few years ago; I was bored of my car and wanted to shift my own gears. I would have put it up for sale if the paint wasn't terrible (clearcoat peeling issues).. then one night after work my tranny crapped out on me and forced my hand. I could either get the auto rebuilt with a stall and shift kit and all that, or buy the parts for the t-56 swap. So I found a nearly complete swap on the forums, and spent the next couple months doing work with my dad out in the garage. . . Since then I'd be VERY hard pressed to sell my car. Recently bought some wheels, a hood, and hopefully will be getting it painted sometime down the road.

You said you're tired of fixing stuff, I know the feeling.. but think of it this way, if you keep replacing the old stuff with good quality parts, they should last you awhile and you won't have to fix them again. Or at least that's my theory.. right.. right? The way I see it, I've put a lot of money into my car, money that I'd never be able to get back if I decided to sell it, especially nearing the 200k mark. Yes it has been a royal pain in the ass sometimes, and I've wanted to push it off a cliff, BUT if i could do it all over again, I would.

With that said, good job on backing out on that trade. It seemed like that car would have turned out to be a bigger headache than your camaro. Also, I'll be the first to tell you that it'd be easier to sell your car to buy a 6 speed car than it would be to swap it. The swap should run you $1500+ depending on the deal you find and what kind of clutch you put in it. Like I said, I was about ready to sell mine, but I'm glad I didn't because it was my first real car, and has a lot of sentimental value to me..

I've owned four dsm's. Three of them being 1st gens and one being a 2nd gen. You never know what you're getting with a turbo car. I would take my 95 z28 over any turbo car around that year. Reliability purposes and the fact that the stock lt1 would put links on a stock dsm.
