I plan to have the dash out my car, I want to go ahead and install a new EVAP core since this will be the best time to do it. The rest of the a/c won’t go in until the 398 stroker motor goes in, so it may be 6 months to a year. My question is, when I install the EVAP core, I imagine I will install the new expansion valve at the same, should I just tape the face of the expansion valve closed? My biggest fear is getting trash or debris in there, but with it completely taped off for the time being, it should be fine until I am ready to put the rest of the a.c back in right?

You will be fine. Your best bet may be finding some vacuum caps or heater core delete caps just the right size to fit them in the holes (put them in backwards, with the closed end going in). That way they make a nice, snug seal. Saw this little trick on BadBlackZee's build.

x2. As long as it has a good seal it will be fine.
