    Default flowmaster v. cutout

so i love the tone of my flowmaster as i cruise around but i miss the the sound of my open y pipe roar when i stomp on it

so a cut out is in my head ... i remember feeling some power loss when i added me flowmaster cat back ... by putting the cut out right behind the y pipe think i will gain it back when it is open?

depending on what your mods and tune will end up being a cutout may add a few HP. I have a electric cutout at my merge on my Borla. I usually run with the cutout half open. It sounds good that way. totally open the car is too loud for long trips. I never dynoed with the cutout open and closed to see if there was any gain. Sometimes if the cutout is too close to the motor the knock sensor will pick it up and retard the timing.

if i were going to do a cut-out with a cat-back, i would do it where he said. simply putting it in the middle of a straight pipe isn't as efficient as putting it just before a bend, such as right before the turn into the muffler, IMHO. and it makes a better sound without sounding like an exhaust leak, also IMHO

I had the American Thunder catback on my last LT1 and I didn't feel a power loss with it. I loved the way it sounded, way better than my Borla on my car now. I also had the cutout put right before the bend over the axle just like what you want. The cutout was always such a cool mod. I kept mine 2/3 closed all the time.

I have my cutouts right after the headers. The only power loss i noticed is when i punch it from a mid - high roll.
