Default Do you like the direction the Fast and Furious movies are going?

Being a Fast and the Furious fan, I saw "Fast Five" this last weekend, and I wanted to get everyone else's opinion on it. Overall I liked the movie as a whole. I thought the cast and story line were some of the best of the series thus far. It had everything a good movie needs to be successfull.

But, I can't help think what brought me into these movies in the first place. Being a diehard car guy, and a street racer, the first Fast and the Furious movie really pulled me in. But it seems ever since the first one, although some cars and plots were good, all seemed to start leaning away from street racing, and more into guns, robbery, and being an outlaw.

I thought specifically in Fast Five for example that there were moments that had potential for great car scenes, but ended up a big tease. For example, when Dom and Bryan are challenging the blue Porsche to a race in the Charger, they taunted the guy, then next thing you see Bryan is driving the Porsche. It skipped the entire street race! (I don't even remember getting to see the amazing Charger really rip it up hardly at all the whole movie!) Again at the end of the movie when Dom and Bryan are going to race, they skip the actual race (unless you count the animated race at the credits). It all just got me fired up, because this successfull francise has so much potential and is close to being what I believe most people would like, but it seems to be straying from its roots and is more into guns than it is into cars.

What do you all think? Am I alone on this? Or do you think that the series could be better being centered around racing cars again?

I gotta say, I loved the new FAST 5 better than any of the previous ones..... everything from the characters to the lack of fart canned imports.

    And.... the ROCK kicks ass...

I hated the first movie, never watched anymore. I blame the boom in the ricer scene round these parts on the franchise. I heard this new one is not too bad, but I may just wait to catch it on cable some day
