    Default Factory Hurst Shifter

Did our cars come with the option to get a Hurst shifter? How do you identify one. I found a factory hurst local on the cheap and was gonna buy it if I dont already have one. I have a hard time hitting 3rd with my current stock shifter, and figure anything would be an upgrade.

I don't know if this is correct or not but I "THINK" that SLP put them in the SS cars they did, and if that's the case then I "THINK" it looked like this:

Once again, I'm not sure about this hopefully someone else will come in and confirm it. Don't flame me I'm just trying to help.

From what Ive read the Hurst cars came with the Hurst shifter you posted above. Also I found some pics of the plate and the hurst is squared off and is about an eith inch thicker than the stocker. If I can get it for under 50 bucks Im gonna buy it but if not Im gonna save for an MGW.

my ws6 came with a hurst shifter and you can feel that is is smoother and rebounds much faster than an standard shifter but when I pulled the tranny the shifter housing doesn't say hurst anywhere. I may be so dirty that I couldn't tell but I looked. Sooo that being said I have no idea

From what Ive read since I posted this, the Stock hurst has a thicker base plate than the stock non hurst, and DOES NOT say hurst anywhere on it. I also read that the stock hurst is the same thing as the hurst competition plus that is for sale on Ebay for 120 bucks right now. The Hurst billet looks similar to the stock hurst but has HURST stamped into the base plate and it is anodized aluminum. (Wow I just typed hurst a lot of time)

Im considering buying a stock hurst with a short stick at this time. A guy over on tech sent me a PM with a used Billet plus I may buy. Ive decided to stick with Hurst because of the heritage and Ive read the 5.0 and ripper is very notchy. MGW has gotten very good reviews but are out of my budget right now and Ive read some problems coming out of the woodwork from a few guys.

Just as an fyi I pulled my tranny a little while ago and am waiting for it to be rebuilt in the mean time I checked out the shifter and sure enough it DOES NOT say hurst on it anywhere and I know that my car came with one plus you can just tell when you use it that its not "stock" or rather non-Hurst

This is from memory, so it might be slightly off

Only the SLP cars(Firehawk/SS) had the option to have a HURST. The WS6 got the standard shifter that came with all the other 6spds. I had a Hurst shifter out of a Firehawk as my first shifter. It used the stock stick with a "H" leather cover. If I remember right, the base was stamped like the stock shifter.

I upgraded to the Hurst Billet. That was completely different in every aspect. The base was a solid, thick piece. It had adjustment stops on the base. The stick was different also.

I had the SLP Hurst from 97-98 before I sold it for the Billet that I still have.

well guys I just sent payment for a Hurst Billet. A guy on LS1tech sent me a PM in a thread I posted about aftermarket shifters. He offered to sell me his Hurst Billet for 75 plus shipping which came out to 90 dollars. He sent me pics and you cant even tell its ever been used. Its got the black round stick with it and Im not sure on a knob but Im probably going to go with a white ball to match the outside of the car.

Well I installed the Billet Plus today. I drove it around for about 30 minutes and am very pleased with it. It is not at all too notchy for me. It just feels like I have better control of the car. The second to third shift is very close together. I just have to bump it foward and it slides over into third. If I try to shift over like I did with the stocker I hit fifth.

Right now I like the length of the stick but may end up getting a shorter one. The shifts going from 1st to 2nd and 3rd to 4th seem kind of long for a short shifter but I do like the feel of the curved stick being so close to me.
