Default Faded Trans Am tail lights.. Anyone ever pull them apart to repair them?

Hey there. The tail lights on my Formula have some de-lamination going on. The black part of the Tetris-scheme is faded in some areas and whatnot. From my understanding this is a common problem. Is there any way to pull them apart and somehow adhere the tetris piece? Any help would be appreciated. I am too cheap to buy other tail lights for $200+. Thanks!

I have read about people heating them in an oven to soften the glue then pulling them apart and repainting the black grids. I'm a little too chicken to stick my lights in an oven. I posted a how-to on another forum about how I made mine look good again. I am posting a link to it here. Hopefully posting links to other forums is allowed here. I'd have to have to recreate the entire thread.

I got your pm but could not respond to it. It said I needed at least 15 posts to send pm. So I can receive pm's but I can't respond to them. I guess that rule makes sense to someone, but I'm lost.

I think he charged me like $15-$18, but he said he was giving them to me cheaper than he would probably sell them going forward since it was kind of an experiment. I don't know how much he normally sells them for. Shoot him an email and ask. Gotta be cheaper than buying new lights.

Are you against just tinting them with that VHT Shading stuff?

No, it's just that I really like the look of the tail lights from the factory. I just wish the ones I had didn't leak and delaminate. Night shading the lights would definitely look better than what they look like now (easier too). Decisions decisions....

Im a big fan of EASY, so if it were me, I would night shade the messed up ones, until a good pair at the right price came along.

And maybe if you night shaded light enough, you could appreciate a dulled grid look without the the delamination being obvious....

I like the way you think sir.. Definitely on the to-do list. I am sure it won't look too bad night shaded. I just don't want it murdered out. My camaro has tail light covers which is nuts. Pulls it off though somehow..
