car randomly shuts off while driving?
so here is the deal. i have a 94 camaro z28 6speed. i was driving tonight cruising at 70 and all of a sudden the car started to die, it slowed down and i would give it gas but it wouldnt do anything. i tried using the clutch to kick start it into a lower gear and it kept dying. i pulled over and tried to start it agian, it would turn over but never crank. i waited like 20 minutes as i was stuck and finally it started. i tried giving it a wot run and at the top end its almost like it hit a rev limiter at 4k rpm. it just stumbles and i let off. it did this to me the other night, i pulled over and turned it off. it started right back up. what could this be, a fuel issue maybe? it leaks a little oil from the from bottom of the motor and the previous owner wrapped the coil wire in orange electrical tape. im thinking maybe he rigged it and when it heats up it shuts off ( the coil stops firing.) previous owner claims opti is less than 2 months old. any suggestions? thanks

Try replacing the coil first. Inexpensive and easy to replace. My car had very similar symptoms and it was the coil.

^^ What Kyle said and then check your fuel pressure, should be 43-47 psi at idle w/o vaccum line attached.
*edit* when you pull off the old coil and head to the parts store to get a new one it'd probably be worth your time to take the ICM with you and have it tested also maybe throw out a few more $ and pick up a new coil wire in case the old was was arcingLast edited by 96LT1355Z28; 02-04-2011 at 09:04 AM.

sounds like a coil heating up and then cooling down so it will start up again
