Well, actually no, not if you want to be precise. Think about what you wrote.

I knew someone would post that he's been running such and such for so and so long and blah, blah, blah. That's why I mentioned it in my post; it seems never to fail that some members become very defensive about the choices they've made. I put it down to loss of objectivity.

As far as "ANYTHING": Many times something will exhibit negative feed-back before actually failing. Take, for example, excessive valve train noise, which may well be an indication of something not being right. Failure won't occur, but the valve train is talking to you; saying "Hey, something's amiss here"; "Hello! Anybody home?!".

I guess it depends on how you define "FAILURE". To me, Failure occurs when a valve is dropped, a spring breaks, a stud breaks or a rocker jumps ship. All of these have recently occurred to members of other Forums.

Some of them have had no prior warning, yet others have and have repeatedly posted about unusual sounds, vibrations (as when one guy posted his engine had excessive vibration only to have his damper fly off a short while later, etc.) He had indications that something wasn't right, didn't find and correct it and then had the failure.
Brings to mind "The China Syndrome".

I'm a member of more than half a dozen Forums and I read a LOT of posts. I've recently noticed that SA rockers seem to be more and more involved in valve train failures of one kind or another.

Another thing I've noticed is that once a member posts about his issue or failure at least one other member (who had not previously reported the same issue or failure) chimes in and says, to the effect "Yea, the same thing happened to me and I did such and such to prevent it from happening again".

So, since I read so much of this stuff, what I try to do is pass it along in the hope it'll benefit others to keep them from experiencing the same thing. Readers can choose to accept or reject it; it's their call.

But to say that ". . . ANYTHING works right up to . . ." etc., etc., isn't totally precise or accurate. I don't intend to continue to take this off-topic; I'm just trying to help.

my car runs really strong cam only. i'm running a Comp XE 224 cam on a 112 LSA with a full Comp valve train. i went consistent 12.0's on motor just with that cam, a 3400 stall, and a MadZ28 tune
1996 Z28: original paint, full boltons, cam, stalled, sprayed - sold

2001 Dodge Ram 1500 4x4: Little bit of lift, 33's, dumped Thrush muffler
