    Thumbs down wtf just happend?!?!

i consider myself the luckiest, unlucky sob alive. i had just had a new series 3 carrier installed with 3.73's. on the way home it started making a grinding noise coming from the left rear. i ignored it (because in a dumb ass). well 2 weeks later i put it up on stands to drop the transmission.... and something provoked me to give that wheel a tug.... it moved in and out at least an inch. so i took it back to the shop and they told me that the c clip came out and was on the magnet.... and it didn't touch ANYTHING.....
but my question is what could cause this? and will it happen again? thanks guys!!

Sounds to me like it wasnt properly put in, or it wasnt set in all the way when the clip went back on, Ive done a few swaps and Ive never had one come out on me

Either they forgot to put it in, or the carrier or axle was already worn so much that there was nothing to hold the c-clip in.

Wouldnt the C clip bouncing around in there cause some damage to the ring and pinion???? Im on board with whoever said, it may have been forgotten...

sounds like a worn diff pin .as it wouldnt of gone in if the axle wasnt seated all the way or never installed
