So...who's running an EWP? And which one?

Water pump is leaking at the weep hole...again. #3 in the last 6 years. I have the housing from the last one that went bad last summer. So, I am thinking about the EWP's. Plus, I like that with an EWP, if it goes bad, you dont have to take the WP housing and all that other fun stuff out to replace it. Also, all of them flow more than the 25 GPM mechanical pump.

Which ones are recommended and why? What does everyone here run, and how long have you had it and have you had any issues?

Im looking at the Summit brand pump, Meziere, and the CSR. Summit brand is $180 and is 30 GPM, Meziere is $217 and is 43 GPM, and CSR is $183 and is 37 GPM.

Meziere is 35gpm for the standard one and 55gpm for the heavy duty. Also, the factory water pump output varies by engine rpm unlike the consistant EWP output so you will get lower temps at idle and cruising, but with extended high rpm use like road racing your temps may actually be higher then with a factory pump. It is a lot more then 25gpm though, except maybe at idle/very low rpms. On the flip side, the factory pump has problems with cavitation over ~6300-~6500rpms(I forget the actual number) anyway, which makes it basically just churn bubbles instead of flowing any coolant.

The back and forth debate about EWP + mechanical can go on forever but I just thought I'd mention those few things.

Personally I have a CSR installed in a housing and all ready to go with harness but have not ran it yet since my new engine is not finished. For the price it seems like the best bet though. You may have to grind down one of the aluminum ears sticking out of the housing to get it to sit flush - no biggie but worth mentioning.

**edit** Apparantly some places(Jegs, EPP, Speed Engineering, Ebay adds, etc) show the standard LTX Mez as a 35gpm unit while others(Hawks, ThunderRacing, etc) show it as 42gpm part. Both talking about the same exact WP118 part number. Strange. Moot point for most really since the 35gpm is rated to 650NA hp...and good luck with getting that from most LTX builds! CSR uses 2 amps less as well for all thats worth. May not be important for most street cars but 2amps is a lot to a race car with a tiny little lightweight battery.

I did read somewhere that the stock mechanical pump is rated at like 25 GPM at about 6k RPM.

Also, I'm not worried about any grinding that may need to be done, I've got a spare stock WP housing and a dremel tool w/ a wide assortment of grinding stones and sanding drums!

I've had the CSR pump since 06 and no problems so far.

Theres a CSR on a buddies turbo mustang build I dropped by to check out the other day.

Much higher quality looking piece than I had expected. I was dead set on the HD Meziere but after seeing his I really wouldn't have any reservations running the CSR.

Just wire it up correctly, on its own relay, and you should be good to go.

I've ran a CSI (before changed to CSR) for 4 years, then I swapped in a new CSR when I built my 355. Very nice units.

I'm running Meziere pump for what it's worth, but yet have any road results.

Meziere pump 42gpm pump here. drive it to and from the track and put about 150 miles on it every weekend. great pump for the price

I have a CSR as well, had one go out just last month put swung another one in there, keeps the car plenty cool even in high heat

CSR here for three years without problems.

I've had a CSR for about 3 years. I hooked mine up to a secondary temp sensor in the passenger side head and a relay that has a warning light and buzzer in my dash to alarm me if the pump looses power or the car's temp gets to hot. So far no problems in 3 years.
