valvespring info needed

I've got a free weekend to work on my car, (for once), and on top of installing headers, I'm thinking about upgrading my valvesprings for the LT4 hotcam I have coming.

If I install stiffer valvesprings and leave the rest of the valvetrain rock stock, will it overstress the timing chain or bend pushrods or anything? I prolly won't get to the cam install for another month at least, so I'll have stiff springs on a stock motor for a while.

If I go to O'reilly or some comparable autoparts store, and buy replacement valvesprings for a 96 grand sport corvette, will those be the same as the springs in the hotcam kit?

I don't know the answer to your question, but I do know that the headers alone will most likely take the whole weekend, unless you really give up an entire day to it, non stop. :puke:

I've got 3 days to do as much work as possible. I'm working at the auto hobby shop on my base, so I'll have the car on a lift, and I'll have access to a full compliment of air tools.

I'll be working 10-6 all 3 days. THe quicker I get the headers done, the more time I can devote to valvesprings.

I didn;t realize you would have a lift. That will definitely help!

I would look at a better valve spring then stock LT4 unless you want to have issues.

I would suggest the Patriot Golds which is a complete kit with titanium retainers, locks, springs, seals and locators.

I have yet to use the Patriot gold Springs on a LT1 but we were looking at it the other day.

We have had great luck with the K-motion K-800s...and they pay contingincy :D

Im a fan of PAC springs personally. I havent heard anything about the patriot golds. there have been a lot of problems with comp 918s so avoid those.

PAC is a good spring as well and we use them regularly on LSx motors. The Patriot setup being a complete dual spring kit is a killer setup for the costs.

+ the Patriot can handle much more abuse with our heavy LT rockers compared to LSx stuff

I havent seen too many people running dual springs on LT1s (compared to LS1s), my opinion of them is yet to be solidified. ill have to read up on the patriots.

many people run dual springs though probably not Patriot since there kit is newer

We use the Patriots on Lsx stuff on a weekly basis into the .650+ lift with o issues.

I will be running these on my new setup and LE uses them often with his heads.

I recall that lift is one of the reasons many people strayed from running duals on LT1s in the past, but .650+ is impressive. must be a good product.

This is what I have in mine. They're duals, but to be honest I really don't know more than that. They were already in the car when I bought it, so I don't know what brand, etc.

I went to my local speed shop today, and picked up a set of LUNATI double springs for $60. THe guy at the shop recommended them for the LT4 hotcam.

coil bind 1.060
.630" max lift
.462 rate.

Is that overkill for a hotcam?

The LT4 Hotcam could use better springs than the LT4 springs right off the bat. I have heard the LT4s tend to float in the upper RPMs, but havent been to the dyno yet to be able to confirm this and fix it.

The Hotcam lift numbers with 1.6 RRs is only .525/.525 so, a set of dual springs rated for .630 max may be a little overkill... When I mean better springs, I mean something not too far above the LT4s... The LT4s are "barely" good enough in a sense.

Yeah, that's probably the only way. I've been learning as much as I can, but a complete tear down is probably still way over my head.

It was bought from a classic car dealer, so I never got to talk to the previous owner.

Is this the 67 or the 94 LT1? (If it was the 67, it obviously has some sort of LT1 transplant?)

It's a 67 Camaro with a 94 LT1 engine in it.
